Background and Frequently Asked Questions

The board started a lengthy process in 2014-15 school year that has included a review and assessment of all three district facilities, census study, two separate community input committees, tours, public meetings and finally a survey of the Windom community.

After reviewing the costs of updating and additions to Winfair, the community input committee recommended building a new elementary school. Further, there was clear community support in the survey for a new elementary

K-5 building, with the largest support for moving 4th and 5th grade out of the middle and high school building. This allows for the Middle High School building to be used as originally intended as a 6-8 middle school and 9-12 high school, with room for growing enrollment.

The survey also showed community support for expansion and updating the Career Technical Education area at the high school as the need to fill skilled labor positions in our area grows.  The increasing need for student opportunities and a facility that can be used beyond our students is supported with the job demands according to MN DEED in the areas of manufacturing and skilled labor positions.
